Is AVAST’s CCleaner a Dangerous Application?

today looking at my firewall logs, i saw CCleaner application being blocked. BUT wait a minute, i have NO CCleaner installed anymore. Double checked my Windows applications installed and there was NO CCleaner. Then i looked at my Program Files folder and i found a CCleaner folder with just some files and CCUpdate executable. Not sure if there is also a Windows service left running ….

So when you uninstall this dangerous CCleaner application, not everything is actually removed. CCUpdate remains and sends private information back and forth without our permission (the destination IPs are shown below in my capture). Everybody should uninstall CCleaner and check if it is completely removed.

Thanks AVAST and CCleaner for all your totally dangerous applications.

Avast … A security company. Go figure what happens with their other antivirus and security software.
