It looks like I can’t get the mail server set up in the current version of OSC even though this was working fine in the past.

Whenever I test a response to an ad, no email message arrives. Tried both custom mail server and Gmail server. Anyone know if this is a common issue?

As for Gmail, forget about it. Gmail is not for that (outgoing smtp).

For the rest, test this: go to admin dashboard/Settings/Email templates and pick a template to edit. From there there is a TEST It option. Use that to send an email and see the response ? Is it ok ? Does the receipient got the email ?

This probably has nothing to do with Osclass but with your server or email server. There have been tones of those topics in the (closed now) official Osclass forum.

Yes, Osclass mail problems are not actually problems with the script but with the hosting mailserver or the custom server users use.

Gmail for example should not be used. There were tones of topics in the old forums about it.

@Fulcanelli

Thanks for the heads up. I think it may have to do with an Apache module not loaded on my server. The exact error message at the Mail Settings page under Encryption is: “Apache Module mod_ssl is not loaded”

Is this module required for setting up the Mail Server? Because even when setting Encryption to ‘blank’ I still can’t send the test mails as suggested by @Fulcanelli (they throw an error) ..

Apache Module mod_ssl is not required, mine shows also not loaded in Osclass.

Do you authenticate to the mailserver?

Yes, indeed I use SMTP authentication. Do you have ‘blank’, ‘ssl’ or ‘tls’ entered in that encryption field please? Or nothing at all?

Authentication or not depends on your hosting setup and provider.

This is what i use from day-one (7 years now):
