Hi friends,

I use Osclasspoint release to one site of mine, upgraded from 3.9. I want to move everything to Wordpress because everything from Osclasspoint is paid, except the script.

The Free ones are either legacy/very old rebranded plugins/themes and some do not work anymore. Also features i needin 2024, simply do not exist in commercial plugins. With Wordpress everything is available, everything.

So, to keep this short, any recomendations? So far, i must say i'm a bit disappointed from WP plugins and themes for Classifieds.

Thanks

Hi,

This is a very hard question to answer. For me, you will never find something with Wordpress to even come close to Osclass. Theme or plugin or both.

Still, i fully understand what you write and i agree. So here are some tips for the free stuff. For paid, i have no idea what to suggest.

1. Avoid those two plugins for Wordpress:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/another-wordpress-classifieds-plugin/

and

https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpadverts/

2. If you run a small single-country site, you may try

https://wordpress.org/plugins/classified-listing/

and

https://wordpress.org/plugins/hivepress/

Both limited and not a real classified plugin but more like a directory.

3. There was a somehow good PAID theme/plugin for Classifieds, named Classipress but i see now it is abandoned.

4. If you are an advanced Wordpress webmaster (or if you can hire one), you could adjust a Directory plugin to work for classifieds also. But a lot of CSS would be needed and some minnor code changes. Also some clever workarounds will be needed, -for example- to bypass the custom login/register functions of the plugins.

Good luck

I would like to add this: Do not use any theme that comes or is suggested with any plugin. It may work a bit better visually BUT you should use a good and configurable Wordpress theme, like Kadence we use here.

Using Kadence, you will be able to design your site freely but some css modifications will be needed. I suggest Kadence because it is HIGHLY configurable. You can do whatever you want, almost no limits.

Thanks for the interesting information. I would prefer to build the Wordpress site using free plugins and themes. For many reasons.

Now, Kadence theme (that i didn't know its existence) is a great theme, you can configure everything. I already installed it to my test site and works wonders.

I have checked the two plugins (#) that @fulcanelli posted and from their demo, yeap, nothing to write home about.

I will have to check the rest this week.

I'm not a very techical guy and i just started to learn the Wordpress ecosystem. So what you propose, probably i can't do it right now. I mean modify or add code and css etc etc. I just can't. But maybe i have someone to help me on this.

I'm ready to sacrifice some features i had with Osclass, in order to have all those mostly free plugins for Wordpress, as security plugins, GDPR plugins, Ads management plugins, SEO plugins, caching plugins etc etc. All those are now PAID for Osclass.

I will do some tests during this week and see how it goes. Thanks for the information, i WILL come back for more stupid questions :)

@true-detective All those Wordpress plugins you mention, MAY or MAY NOT work well with Wordpress plugins for Classifieds/Directories.

So TEST well, each and every of them before making a huge step from Osclass=>Wordpress.

If you are a bit creative, you can turn a WP plugin to your needs. I mean for example use a plugin to show/hide menu options from logged in and logged out. Or turn a widget with Countries for example, to a dropdown menu at the header. Or edit the pages that don't quite fit to your needs.

If the plugin supports custom fields, add whatever field you need (and remove what you don't need).

Not easy but also not that hard. If you have someone who knows Wordpress, he/she will be able to figure this out.

Let us know of your findings, i'm very interested.

The benefits of using Wordpress for anything (Classifieds in our case) is just ENORMOUS. Like Kadence, there is also Neve theme, Wordfence, SEO Framework, GDPRs, Caching of all kind, you name it.

It is surprising that a really quality classifieds plugin doesn't exist for Wordpress. Everything i have see for Wordpress, is (to be kind) not even close to Osclass or any other proper classifieds script.
