Hi guys,

I read your blog posts about Wordpress caching. You seem to praise Comet Cache. Since that plugin is not updated and supported any more (seems so at Wordpress.org), is your suggestion still valid?

I run a pretty busy Wordpress site and i would like to know ....

Thanks!

Hello.

Indeed Comet Cache is now abandon-ware for sure. No updates for 2+ years and Wordpress.org is wrong (or gamed) saying at the plugin's page that it is updated a year ago.

And this is pitty because Comet Cache is the only cache we fully trusted. It seems to still work with WP 5.4 and PHP 7.3.x, i have no idea what happens with later versions of WP and PHP.

So the next alternative in 2020 is Fastest Cache for WP for caching ONLY. Don't use the plugin's optimizations, use a separate plugin for all those.

If you are on a Litespeed web server then Litespeed cache plugin for WP is an option for everything, caching and optimizing.

Both plugins above work a bit differently from Comet Cache, they use mod rewrite mode for serving the pages and not php as Comet Cache. That (in theory) is faster because it bypasses completely php and db usage and calls. I wrote "in theory" because in real world i haven't seen any difference in speed. Maybe there is some speed difference in heavy situations with sudden traffic (or attack).

Hi, no i'm not on a Litespeed web server. So shall i move to Fastest Cache?

Also it is not clear to me what do you mean by the "optimizers" part of your reply. Can you explain a bit more?

cheers!

Ok, then yes i would suggest Fastest Cache plugin.

About your question: Fastest Cache has some "lite" optimizing options. They work ok but are rather limited.

If you use those and you exclude some pages (plugins) from caching, then you turn also the optimization for those.

If you use a separate plugin for Optimizations, you can do whatever you want to caching and still optimize pages. I mean some page (plugin) can have caching set to OFF and still use optimizations.

I general plugins that are "all in one" are not good in everything they advertize.

Guys why change something if it is not broken? Comet Cache works very well and there is nothing wrong with it.

It has some 60.000 installations and has stayed there for 1-2 years now. That means it is still working great for them.

Because it is a totally abandoned plugin. 3 years back. No information about it and even PAID users of their pro plugin are left in the drark. All of a sudden.

So why use that plugin anymore and not move into something updated and supported? And maybe better (faster)?

ok, i will try Fastest Cache with no optimizations, since we already use Autoptimize for ages. I hope it works right with the cache plugin.

If that doesn't go well, are there any other options for caching?

Thanks
