Since you really want to try some alternatives and you are already gonna do some tests (i guess), you may want to try Fast Velocity Minify optimizer along with Fastest Cache plugin.

Finally we switched to Fastest Cache and stayed with Autoptimize. No problems until now and i see no speed changes to be honest.

Thanks for the help guys.

If you want to do some tests for speed (and more), you can use

agetest.org/

It is pretty good but ignore some (new) warning about security issues. Not very reliable or applicable.
